Classes Workshops Achievement Testing

Write Worthy partners with home school parents
to assist with teaching and inspiring students to write.

Nestled among the homes and trees on the west side of Portland, Oregon,
Write Worthy is a place where Christian home schooling families find
support, friendship, and help with teaching writing.

In the atmosphere of a Christian home classroom, small groups of children
meet for classes and workshops. Guided by a caring and experienced teacher, they explore
God's incredible design of the English language, learn strategies, practice techniques, and
find out what it means to have fun working hard - as they develop strong writing skills.

Write Worthy provides
classes and workshops, as well as spring achievement testing.

Writing Classes

At Write Worthy we approach the teaching of writing with anticipation that children will succeed as they watch for the Creator to reveal Himself in our language and patterns of communication.  We ignore myths that insist English is a hodge-podge of confusion and exceptions, and we take up the pursuit of discovering the awesome structure and consistencies that God has provided to guide our understanding of the language He created.

Our weekly classes team with parents to help with teaching writing in their home school.

We are now registering for 2010-11 classes. Follow the links on the Classes page, and contact us for more information.

Achievement Testing

An achievement test can be a helpful tool for home school parents. While the State only requires testing in grades 3, 5, 8, and 10, many home schooling families test every year. For students, it provides valuable experience and practice with a formal test environment as well as accountability for the subject matter of the school year. (Some families use the test date as a marker for the end of the school year / graduation to the next grade level.) For parents, the measurement of achievement provides peace in knowing that acceptable progress is being accomplished through their home schooling efforts.

At Write Worthy, we offer the CAT each spring and summer. Students take the test in a small group (or privately) in our home classroom - softening the formality of an achievement test with an environment that feels safe and relaxed.

The testing fee, of just $40, covers the group test session, test scores (mailed to parents, with an extra copy for ESD, if needed), and a diagnostic profile. The profile, which provides a list of skills covered on the test with the items the student missed identified, is valuable for home schooling parents.

Follow the links on the Testing page for more information about tests available and tips for test preparation. Choose a date and contact us for reservations.
